My Kinda Woman

Over the years, I've observed something about myself. When it comes to females in anime, I'm a sucker for the sensible ones. The women who have their act together, and in the absence of plot contrivance, are perfectly functional people. If there's Shipping to be done (which, oddly, doesn't seem possible with most of my choices) , I'm usually Shipping in their direction

For example:

(I'll be adding screens later)

Kiyone - If you haven't expanded into non-OVA Tenchi Muyo continuities, you've likely never run in to her. She's Mihoshi's eminently capable partner in the Galaxy Police and "nearly" unflappable. "Nearly" only because Mihoshi is the one person in the Universe who can push her buttons, and wouldn't you know she's forced to be around Mihoshi all the time. (I'm talking about her TV1/Tenchi Universe personality. She's in "the harem", but she's not really interested in Tenchi. I haven't seen much of the TV2/Tenchi in Tokyo series, but I hear-tell her character is drastically different in that one.) If I was limited to the OVA continuity, I'd probably wait a decade for Sasami. (Humorous aside - Rush Limbaugh came up in the seventh page of a google image search for "kiyone". I decided to search down that particular rabbit hole and discovered a right-leaning Canadian anime fan who named his blog after Kiyone. He's been at it since early 2003.)

Kiroko - Seina's younger GXP equivalent to Kiyone. Mature, sensible, and capable in all things except knowing what to do about her relationship with Seina.

Kagami - The most "normal" and level-headed of the Lucky Star primaries: good friend, awesome older sister. Konata's the only one who can really up-end her world on a regular basis.

Sayako - Let's face it. None of the Bamboo Blade girls are really normal. It's just that Sayako's idiosyncrasies receive the least amount of attention and development, leaving her to seem the most normal of the cast. It doesn't hurt that she's gorgeous.

1 And Lafiel, right?

2 Yes, but she didn't come to mind immediately because while eccentric, most Abe females seem to be fairly sensible by default. I'll have to add her.

I dunno, a rather eclectic bunch, really. Ekuryua, for example, or Admiral Spoor.

Atosuryua, on the other hand, is definitely like you say.

4 Well, there is a shocker - Will prefers sensible women. Whatever happened to opposites attract? I was sure that you would love a good "fixer-upper" walking disaster type of gal

5 Heh, and people laugh at me when I say my favorite Sakura Taisen girl is Kanna...

Kerith, I've tripped over two-such so far, and I don't care to deal with it any more. Women who aren't completely psychotic are hard to find.

As to Sakura Taisen... It's a show I have given serious thought to starting up times, but considering how much the continuity is split up into videogames/anime of varying age and availability, the cost overhead has always driven me off.
